Charitable giving reached a record high in the United States with contributions totaling more than $248 billion in 2005! According to a 2006 Giving USA report, giving rose 6.4 percent (2.9 percent when adjusted for inflation), with individual giving representing the largest source - $199.07 billion. Foundation grants accounted for 11.5 percent of the total ($30 billion).

It’s worth noting some analysts believe overall giving will decline in 2006 because a significant portion of the rise in 2005 was due to the hurricane disasters.
